Communities of practice are one of the main building blocks of a Knowledge Management system, and many organizations will seek to create, launch and sustain a number of networks, as a pilot within Knowledge Management Implementation, or as a means to deliver value through Knowledge Management. Certain topics and knowledge areas are crucial to the successful, profitable operation of your business. We will help you choose the most suitable topics, and establish knowledge-sharing networks throughout your business, giving these communities a quick-start introduction to the tools and processes they need, to eliminate barriers to the free flow of knowledge. Using a proven methodology, we will facilitate a two-day launch agenda for your community, to help them develop their charter, identify their focus areas, agree their roles and behaviors, and build the culture and behaviors needed for success. |
We were employed by a client to launch a series of Communities of Practice in 2003. Using our methodology, 4 communities were launched, with well defined focus areas, which grew through a series of stages over the following few years. By focusing on development of corporate best practice, the communities delivered real value to the company. Another client had introduced a benchmarking tool that allowed businesses to 'measure' their performance against each other with the intention that the 'poorer' performers would ask for help from the better performers. This was unsuccessful. The client invited us to work with them to design a tool that would allow 'question and answers' and create a community that has grown in strength and ability to deliver value to it's members over the years. |
